ABSTRACT: China’s reliance on imported timbspecies, leading to the predominant use of mass tinber products from imported wood in modern timber structures. Toaddress this issue, innovative design approaches are needed to integrate domestically sourced timber into constructionprojects. This study explored the feasibility of usng domestic wood species for small structural elements in axiallycompressed members as a potential alternative tomass timber products. The proposed latticization method, whichintegrates engineering mechanics with architecture design, aims to reduce material consumption and enhance structurastability and load-bearing capacity. This methodeffectiveness was validated through a case study of Future City Experience Hall in Hangzhou, China, where its performance was evaluated in terms ofstructural safety, cost-effectiveness. and environmental impact. By demonstrating thsustainable use of local forest resources, this study contributedsignificantly to the design of axially compressedmber members, offering a pathway to reduce reliance on importedtimber and minimize environmental footprint in China.
